Here we go again. Scam on top of Scam!

It has been brought to my attention that one scamming company has renamed itself if effort to hide from it's well known scamming past.

On October, 12, 2010, I posted about Burn Your To Do List, based on several complaints I had read in regards to them. That post has been my top read post, ever, and received many replies. Mostly from people who had been scammed by them. Also, a few from the company, trying to defend themselves.

There have been some new comments, warning that the company has changed it's name. The new company is OutSourSEO.

I have not had experience with either company. Have only heard all of the complaints, and rebuttals. With that said, I felt it important to share the information.

Some disgusting people are posing as representatives (read - FAKE) of Habitat For Humanity, even going to the lengths of using real looking HFH email addresses, and are scamming people. By looking at this, it looks legit because of the "habitat.org" email address. I'm not sure about this and can not explain it. But what I am sure about is that it is illegal to have donations written out to you personally on behalf of a non-profit organization. I tried calling the 1-800 number and it has been busy for 4 hours. I google'd the email address and found this on the email: Habitat for Humanity International - Anti-Fraud International.

I hope Habitat For Humanity will press charges against these scammers, and that justice will be served.

I have seen this scam on Cragslist, and on some Google searches. However, it really hit home when I saw someone posting it as a Work At Home type opportunity, on a Work At Home forum that I frequent.

The scam looks like this (or something very similar):

The scammer is trying to get your personal and bank information. With this info, they will likely try to hack into your account, steal money or your identity (which is a Felony, BTW).

Here we go again - yet another scam.

Panda research is a survey site. Now, there are many legitimate survey sites, but Panda Research is not one of them.
Panda research offers surveys where you can earn from $3 to $75 each, and also offers email / ad reading for $0.03 to $0.25 each.

So where's the scam? You have to pay / buy one of the offers on the site, in order to claim your money.
Based on research, and forum posts from people that have been scammed by Panda Research, some people did buy the offers to try and get paid. They never got paid, and emails sent to the company went unanswered.

You should NEVER have to pay for a job. If they want your money - they are scammers.

Here we go again. Another WAH job scam. The below ad / email has been going around a lot, lately. I've see it or similar 'jobs' posted on various sites. Many people are receiving it via email, as well.
Ultimately this 'job' is Money Laundering, punishable by jail time. Don't do it!

A WAHM from a forum I belong to, posted this warning about Burn Your To Do List:

Hello everyone,

I am so sorry that I have to come in and give anyone bad news about a company, but I wanted to make sure no other WAHM have to go through the hell I have gone through the last month at my now former job at Burn Your To Do List.

I started working at BYTDL 10 months ago for a very small amount of money (2.00 per article), and within a few months I was promoted to support staff, and subsequently promoted 2 more times to a management position.

As I became more and more involved in the inner workings of BYTDL, I started noticing dirty dealings being done on customers.
They had some policy's that I highly disagreed with, and it was becoming apparent to me that BYTDL scams customers out of money by trapping them into subscriptions.
This was not sitting well with me at all as I was raised to be an honest woman.

I stayed with BYTDL because it was up for sale and I thought maybe a new owner would turn things around as the former owner, Rachel Rofe, wanted to move on to other things.
BYTDL sold in mid-Sept, and I am sorry to say that the new owner, Joe Harkins, is well, not a nice person to deal with.

Over the past 3 weeks I have seen him:

1.Change terms of service without notifying any customers. He sent out an email with no previous warnings and changed the subscription terms and rates of older clients. He did not even have the nerve to sign it with a name, but instead signed it a generic "the BYTDL support team"

2. Has logged into his employees accounts (including mine) and pretended to be them and replied to clients and providers.

3. Called several employees (who have now all quit)and belittled them, (and in some cases flat out lied about them), and borderlines on being verbally abusive.

I handed in my resignation after he called me and spent over 2 hours telling me basically what a crappy manager i am.
I was approached by the former owner, Rachel and she (very nicely) asked me to stay and train a new manager they hired.
I agreed and spent the last week training her and doing my usual work.
I have 4 days worth of skype conversations to prove that I was on all day and made training videos for her.
This was along side doing my normal work, and putting in 9-10 hour days all week.

When Sunday rolled around, (which is payday), I was to train the new lady on how to do payroll. She never showed up. I waited for 10 hours for her to log on to skype.
Several of my friends and co-workers can verify this as they were on all day with me waiting and keeping me company.

When it became apparent that she was not going to log on, I did payroll and sent the files to Rachel (who had been acting as a mediator with me and the new owner).
Payroll subsequently did get done and my friends who work there did get paid.
I, however did not get paid.
They now owe me 600.00 for my last week of work which I doubt I will ever see.

I did not come here to whine, I can and will survive without that 600.00 but my main concern is for anyone else who might be considering working for this company.
It was bad enough that it happened to me, but I do not want to see anyone else get sucked into this scam of a job.

Avoid this place at all cost! They treat employees like garbage and all of their senior staff have left because of it.
They also treat clients very poorly, and are ripping them off.
It will only be a matter of time before they go under due to shady business practices.

I am sorry that it had to come to this, I have always been more of a lurker than a poster, but I felt in this case, everyone needs to know what type of business BYTDL (Burn your to do list) has become.
I had defended them in the past, but they are not worth working for anymore, and it is very sad because it was a great place to work at one time.

Again, I am sorry for this post, but I could not let anyone be put through the same situation as I was.

Since posting this, several people have contacted her saying that they had a similar experience. So sad that this 'company' is taking advantage of good, hard working people.

Each and every one of us got the following response:

The immediate Red Flag is the fee. Yes, it is a small fee of $2.95, however, you should NEVER have to pay for a job.
In looking into it a little further, that small fee is for a 14 day trial, it is then $47.00 per month.
Based on my research, once you sign up, it is very difficult to get them to stop charging your credit card.
Looking a little further, the person that posted the job ad, and sent the response email is an affiliate of the site (Real Writing Jobs), and receives $18.00 for each person that signs up with her link (referral).
There is no job available (proofreading or otherwise). The scammer is just trying to get you to sign up, so she can make money off of you. Then you sign up for a sight that will repeatedly charge your credit card, for you to look at more fake / scam job postings.

In the last couple of weeks, I have been reading a lot about scams. The most recent one to pop up (again) is a check cashing scam.
The 'company' posts ads in classifieds (online and print), CraigsList, work / job forums (particularly work at home), etc., about accounting / book keeping jobs.
The job is to cash checks that they send to you, keep your cut, and then print a new check for one of their 'vendors' or 'employees'.
The technical term for this is Money Laundering. It is against the law and if you participate, you could face jail time.
Once hired (everyone whom contacts them is hired), they tell you to go buy a new computer, sometimes printers, desks, and other costly items, and that they will reimburse you for these items. If you actually receive a check, it will always either bounce, or have a 'stop payment' on it.

If you see these type of 'jobs' posted, click the report or abuse button, so the web site knows about and can remove them.

Some legitimate companies will want you to have the latest computers and office equipment, and will provide them for you. They will have a relationship with a vendor, and will have any necessary items sent to you (at their cost, not yours).

Be careful out there - and remember - NEVER pay any money for a job. If they are asking you for money (or for you to buy expensive items), it is a SCAM.

I have seen several posts (in doing searches, and in visiting very trusted forums) about a new Website Testing company / position.
Being that I have faced my share of scams, I am wondering about the catch. With that said, I don't see one...yet.
Website Testing sounds right up my alley - if it is legitimate.
The company is in pre-launch phase, and there is no cost involved (remember - NEVER pay for an online job - if they ask you for money upfront - it is a scam), so there is really nothing to lose by signing up.

Take it with a grain of salt - I am not positive about this one yet. But, again, there is nothing to lose, so we wont know until we try.

GigBux is this fun website for freelancers. You register (just a quick little form), and then start adding posts of things that you do, for $5, $10, or $20. People buy your 'service' and you get paid. GigBux lists all posts on their site, Twitter, and Facebook, so they get a lot of exposure.
The categories that you can post in are:

Your posts can be anything from I will write 10 articles for $10, to I will send you a picture of a smiling monkey, for $5.
It's all up to you - have fun with it!
I know people that have worked for and have been paid by GigBux - it is legitimate!

It's not personal - it's just business.

Right? I am trying to remind myself of that. I spent thirteen years in the corporate world, and certainly understand the concept of , "It's not personal - it's just business." However, I am taking it personally (at least a little).

The project that I have been working on for a couple of months, has come to a close today. It has nothing to do with the work that I or any of my teammates did. The project was just done. We actually did great work, that I am really proud of.
This project was by far the 'biggest' work from home project that I have ever worked on, and I already miss it. Not only will I miss the comfy paycheck that went along with it, but I will miss my teammates. I met some lovely people whom I thoroughly enjoyed working with. All people like me - Stay At Home Moms, working from home. I will stay in touch with these wonderful people, and hope that we can work together again.

I am hoping the project will be 'revived' when it gets closer to the holidays. And, I am very hopeful that since this door has closed, there is another one around the corner that is waiting to open.

I have promoted IMShopping quite a bit, for work. IMShopping, is a great company and I love working for them.

However, I don't mention enough that IMShopping is a great shopping resource, as well.
If you have a shopping question (about any product), or can't find what you are looking for, go to IMShopping, and ask.
You will receive a few answers, finding / recommending the product you are looking for.
For example, I am thinking about getting a DSLR camera, but I am lost as to which one to get. I will ask the question on IMShopping, and get recommendations / reviews in my price range.

One thing IMShopping likes to focus on, is getting the best deals. Right now there are great back to school deals to be found. When we get closer to the holidays, IMShopping is definitely the place to find the best deals available!

Yes! You can make money online - legitimately!

I have been working online for just over a year. It started with some research, some trial and error, a few of the dreaded scams (booooo!), and what I feel is now finally success.
If you are looking for online work - keep at it. I know it can get discouraging sometimes, but I encourage you to keep looking for work that suits you. Try a bunch of different things, until you find something that works. You can do it!

Similar to Cha-Cha and KGB - but significantly easier and much BETTER! Weegy does not require you to take a bunch of silly tests (Cha-Cha and KGB require testing - just to join). You just sign up and start answering questions!

*Most importantly - Weegy pays much more than the other sites!!*

Weegy - questions come in live, about any and all subjects, and you answer them (based on your knowledge, or you can look up the answer on google, wikipedia, etc.).
I have been receiving a lot of relationship questions, or general internet questions (i.e. what is you favorite search engine?).

Weegy pays $0.20, per question answered. There is also a monthly points contest where you can $30.00 for first place, $20.00 for second, $10.00 for third.

I foolishly started promoting incomeWeb, and now believe it to be a scam.
I stopped receiving commissions, after the first week, even though I got several referrals, as well as ad / link / banner clicks.
I sent them several messages through their contact form, and finally received a 'canned' response explaining how to add code to your website. They have not addressed any of my questions. With all of that said, I am removing all links and banners from my site. I will put them back up, if I am convinced that incomeweb is not a scam. But, I am not holding my breath.....

Ugh - SO sick of the scams!!!!

I have really pared down the online jobs that I have been doing. I used to do a lot more PTC (Paid To Click) sites, but found that a lot of them took FOREVER to reach payout level. They were all Legitimate - just a little slow for my liking. If you are interested in seeing all of them, feel free to look back at some of my older posts. Everything listed below is what I am currently doing to make money online, Legitimately.

You can sign up to become a Weegy Expert, and answer questions. You are paid for each conversation you participate in. You also accumulate points from customer ratings, comments on the Weegy blog, and archived conversations. Weegy has a monthly points contest, and the top three Experts receive bonus money (1st gets $100, second gets $75, and third gets $50).
I have won first or second place in the points contest several times - that is some nice extra cash in the pocket!

People asking questions of Weegy can also request particular Experts for a fee, and that Expert will receive additional money.

I apologize for length of time since my last post. My entire family was sick for three weeks!! Ugh! Glad that's over!

IMShopping is starting the next wave of hiring for shopping Assistants / Guides, this week!

You need to sign up as a Community Member, and answer 25 questions, to be considered.

Once you are signed up, click the 'Answer' tab and answer any questions that interest you. It is good to answer questions that already have an answer, because there has to be more than one answer to be eligible for Best Answer. If you win Best Answer, you will be paid $2.00(not bad for a minute or two of your time!).
Payout is $40.00, IMShopping pays to PayPal every Monday.

If you are invited to be a Shopping Assistant / Guide, you will be paid $0.35 for every question answered, as well as receive bonuses for positive feedback / thumbs up ($.065), and Best Answers ($1.65).

I have been receiving a lot of questions about my biggest sources of income. So, I thought I would share.

My top two sources are: IMShopping and Weegy .

They are both question and answer sites, but very different from each other. IMShopping is purely shopping questions.
Whereas Weegy is a variety of questions about every subject. I have included detail descriptions of both, below.

I do pretty well with some pay to click sites, too. My top three are: Trek Pay , You Data , and NeoBux

IMShopping is a site where people ask shopping questions, and the Shopping Assistants / Guides answer the questions, and add suggestions with our special 'bookmarklet' that allows us to add products to our answers.

SO sick of the scams!!!

As I scour the internet, trying to find more Legitimate Online Jobs, I continue to find scam after scam. It is really disheartening. I have found possibility that some of the sites that I have been supporting, may actually be scams. I will at least temporarily remove them (the high paying PTC sites). Though I have seen proof of payment on these sites, I have read some things suggesting that the payment proof is fake. I will look further into all of this, and let you know what I find. I will post a new and improved list of sites I know to be legitimate, shortly.

Changing my tune.....

I have spoken further with Jeffrey Johnson (owner of the high paying PTC sites), and he pretty much admitted that he is taking advantage of people. Though he says it is not his fault, as some people don't read the TOS.
I admit, I was foolishly one of those people. Granted, I did not completely believe that I would get paid by these high paying sites. But, I was trying to give it an honest chance, and give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
Where are we, if we have no hope? Either way Jeffrey Johnson is not being honest with his sites - he is taking advantage of honest, hard working people. Frankly, that pisses me off! My entire point with this blog was to bring you Legitimate Online Jobs. I will continue to do that, with my eyes a wide open.
